Relive the Tour de France Stage 18 ITT: Sallanches to Megeve

3 min read

This individual time trial may show who will hit their peak performance going into the last two days of climbing stages at the Tour de France.  The most interesting aspect about this time trial is that it falls on day two of a four days spent in the mountains.  These four days spent in the mountains will determine which of the general classification riders have what it takes to win the Tour.  We will see rouge attacks from riders trying to gain time back on others as well as riders completely imploding and loosing precious time.  The last week of the Tour this year is going to be the general classification riders throwing blows at each other on the highest peaks.

The time trial itself does not seem that horrible but think about this, it is only 17 kilometers which means that it is just short enough to have to go full gas the entire time, throw the climb into the mix and two full weeks of riding in the legs and you have a recipe for a thrilling stage.

The winner of this time trail will more than likely be the winner of the 2016 Tour de France.

You can now relive this stage and see how you stack up to the pros by completing your own time trial at home.  Download the GPX file from the link below and follow the instructions for virtually riding Stage 18 Individual Time Trial.  Pass it along to your friends and share your results for some friendly competition.

If you are using your smart trainer to train with power then you may consider using this time trial to do a FTP test.

You can upload the route to your ELEMNT or newer model Garmin bike computer as well as the Virtual Trainer app. I am not familiar with IMIntervals but if it has smart trainer control functionality then you should just be able to upload the route and enable the app to control the KICKR.

I am gonna upload it to Bkool and have it create a 3-D route for me. But of course, you have to be a subscriber.
Perhaps it is possible to do this with other simulation software too

What do you mean by “Virtual Traininer app”?
Which app on the App Store (Apple) is able to control your KICKR with the GPX-files from stage 18 (or Mont Ventoux)?
