We are excited to have Jeremy Powers join our Wahooligan family for 2016! Jeremy is the current U.S. Cyclocross champion and top-ranked American rider in the world. We are honored to have him train with the KICKR power trainer this season.
A little about Jeremy
Jpow started racing at local races at an early age and loved riding around his house on his BMX bike. He joined the Team Devo junior mountain bike program and won the Junior Mountain Bike World Cup in Napa Valley in 2000! He was introduced to cyclocross as a great way to cross train at the end of mountain bike season. He was invited to the Cyclocross Junior World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic in 2001 and finished 17th. This was his first international cyclocross race.
He took the leap and moved to Massachusetts deciding to pursue road racing. While going to college he moved from a Category 5 to a Category 1 racer in a few short months, and ended his road-racing season by signing a contract with Jelly Belly Pro Cycling at 20 years old. Even with successful seasons on the road, he would always turn to cyclocross in the off-season.
He then decided to pursue his true passion and was signed to the Cyclocrossworld.com team in 2007, which was one of the first cyclocross teams in the U.S. He quickly rose to success in the sport and began finishing in the top 10 at World Cup events in Europe. He won his first U.S. National Cyclocross Championship in 2012 and won his second national championship in 2014.
Jeremy began his own team, Aspire Racing and this coming season will focus solely on cyclocross taking on a full European schedule, focusing on UCI World Cup events, and will attend select events on the ProCX calendar in the U.S.
Jeremy is able to do something he loves and be an incredible ambassador for the sport. He works on many projects to grow the popularity of cyclocross in the U.S. and we are excited to be part of it.
Training with the KICKR Power Trainer
Using the KICKR smart trainer, Jeremy is able to get the most out of his training even when he isn’t able to go outside for a session. The realistic road feel allows him to simulate outdoor rides but indoors, which also makes the KICKR a great tool for warming up and cooling down at races (see photo below!)
“A lot of people dread getting on the trainer but when you have something so well done, it’s a pleasure.” –JPow
We are excited to join JPow in his exciting adventure for 2016! Take a peek into Jeremy’s life with the Book of Cross // Chapter 2 below.
