With six national and world championship jersey victories and over 30 total wins this year, BORA-Hansgrohe had an exceptional 2017 season. But this probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise — this 25-man dream team is led by three-time World Champion Peter Sagan.
Now, with ambitious plans for 2018, Bora- Hansgrohe is partnering with Wahoo Fitness to maintain their spot at the top. Like 2017 Tour de France winners Team Sky (who have used Wahoo’s technology since 2014), BORA-hansgrohe will leverage two key products from Wahoo’s product ecosystem: the ELEMNT BOLT and the TICKR Heart Rate Monitor.
Making it Look Easy
The ELEMNT BOLT, with its aerodynamic design and clean user interface, and the TICKR Heart Rate Monitor, with its modular measurement capabilities, will assist BORA-hansgrohe with capturing their data quickly and efficiently. To BORA-hansgrohe Team Manager Ralph Denk, the simplicity of the products is an imperative factor in pre- and post-performance analysis.
“For a team operating at the Pro Tour level, it’s absolutely critical that our data capture for both training and race efforts can be tailored to the unique needs of each athlete, without compromising consistency or ease of measurement across the board, and the Wahoo product ecosystem is fully capable of enabling this,” says Denk.
Plus, the team is getting bigger; key riders Peter Kennaugh, Daniel Oss, and Polish National Champion Rafael Majka will be added to the squad starting in 2018. That means they’ll need reliable data to formulate strategies with these new members. And there’s no time to waste with bad strategy — races are fast and brutal. In the heart of a race, Peter Sagan relies on seeing his preferred metrics as soon as he needs them.
“I like how I can customize the display and the LED lights to show only the information that I need – like power and effort levels – without having to look too hard for the data, which is especially important in the chaos of the last few kilometers of a race,” Sagan says.
Creating the World’s Best Riders
This new partnership with BORA-hansgrohe is in-line with Wahoo’s continued plan to produce the world’s fastest and most-informed cyclists. With data from these elite athletes, Wahoo is able to tweak the products to create a more valuable tool for all users.
Chip Hawkins, Wahoo Fitness CEO says, “It’s been a dream of mine to have a world tour-caliber team racing with Wahoo devices to measure and form their stage-winning efforts. It was with this goal in mind that we worked with industry leaders in aerodynamics to design the BOLT – with the sole intent of reducing drag and saving watts to help the fastest teams in the world like BORA-hansgrohe go even faster.”
With BORA-hansgrohe’s addition to the Wahoo team, 2018 is gearing up to be one for the books.
