Recently GCN (Global Cycling Network) pitched a mountain bike against a road bike on the cobbles of Belgium. In that instance, the mountain bike was the fastest bike of the two. They used the ELEMNT BOLT GPS Bike Computer to track data and measure overall effort required to conquer the cobbles.
They then expanded this challenge to a climb in the Alta Baldia region in Italy. Matt and Si each rode a route loaded on their ELEMNT GPS Bike Computer and measured the effort using a power meter and a TICKR Heart Rate Monitor. Si on his mountain bike and Matt on his road bike, each had to reach the cafe at the predetermined destination.
Each had their challenges, including technical off-road riding for Si and two ascents for Matt. Both were able to track each other using the ELEMNT’s Live Tracking feature, making it easy for Matt to pre-order a cappuccino for Si at the finish.
At the end of the day it is all about the ride. The data collected, the elevation gained and the miles ridden are just by-products of a great day in the saddle.
